Hi!  My name is Talley and I am in the 9th grade.  I live in South Carolina.
My English class is currently doing debates and my topic is con War
against Iraq.  I've searched the internet high and low and I can't seem to
find any reasons why protesters are protesting, only that they are
protesting.  I hope that made sense :).  Anyway, I was hoping that you could
possibly give me some reasons why this organization  doesn't want America to
go to war.  It would be greatly appreciated!  :)

"You can't know," said the girl.  "You can only believe--or not."

The protests are because war kills people.  Therefore, you do not want to go to war unless it is absolutely necessary.

Think about your parents, brothers, sisters, classmates being killed.  Think about your school being blown up.  Think about having your arm blown off.  Think about dying of nuclear poison due to the atomic bullets that the United States used and are laying all around battle zones.  Think about airplanes flying over and dropping bombs that set your neighborhood on fire.

These are the realities of war.

Now these people who are protesting say all this is going to happen when the United States invades Iraq.  And they are saying that Iraq has no ability to harm the United States.  They are saying that the only reason that George Bush is attacking Iraq is because he wants to steal the 112 billion barrels of oil they have.

They are also protesting because the United Nations is against invading Iraq and the United States is going to create a war there without any authority from the United Nations.

They say that if we invade Iraq without authority and without being attacked, then we are just like the Nazis in World War II and Bush is just like Hitler.

They are also protesting because Bush said that he was going to use nuclear bombs in Iraq.  This has never been done since we dropped bombs on Japan in 1945.  No other nation has ever used them.

They are also protesting because they say that the Jews in Israel are killing Palestinians every day and the U S is doing nothing about it.

They are saying that war is wrong and there is no reason to start one in Iraq.  And they are saying that if Iraq is attacked it is going to look like the Christians are attacking the Muslims just like they did in the Crusades a thousand years ago.  They say that if this happens, we are going to be attacked all over the world as well as here in America.

Think about going to the mall and having a bomb going off and all your friends being killed or crippled.  Think about going into a movie theater and being gassed to death.

These are just some of the reasons that there are so many protests around the world.  Millions of people in 2000 cities had protests last weekend.  In Spain, there were over 500,000, 100,000 in Paris, 100,000 in Washington DC, 100,000 in San Francisco attending these protests.  And yet Bush is going to start a war anyway.

The people of the world are against this war.  The governments of the world are against this war.  And yet Bush is going to start this war anyway.

Bush also refused to attend the global conferences on global warming in Japan and Human Rights in South Africa.  All the other nations attended the human rights conference except Israel.  Bush has determined that if something is not good for America then the U S does not have to participate in it.  People are starving in Africa and Bush does not care.  People are starving in Afghanistan because we destroyed their country and Bush does not care.

People are dying all over the world because they cannot afford medicine for TB, AIDS and Malaria and Bush refuses to make the drug companies in America reduce their prices to the poor people of the world.

Bush has just signed a bill that will allow the lumber companies to begin cutting tress in the National Forests just so those who gave him money during his campaign can be paid back.

All these things are being protested but the main reason is the unjust war in Iraq.

How can we manifest peace on earth if we do not include everyone (all races, all nations, all religions, both sexes) in our vision of Peace?
